Dove Canyon, Calif. – The Long Beach State women’s golf team shot a tournament low 289 on the final round to capture the team title at the Anteater Invitational at Dove Canyon Country Club Wednesday. Long Beach State’s Kay Hoey shot a 69 on the final 18 holes, while Lee Lopez and Lindsay McAttee each fired a one-over 72 to lead the Forty-Niners to the team title with a 54-hole total of 891 (302-300-289). UC Davis finished second (903), San Francisco was third (904), Idaho was fourth (907) and host UC Irvine rounded out the top five at 919 (318-296-302). UC Davis’ Chelsea Stelzmiller shot a one-under par 71 Wednesday to earn medalist honors with a three-day total of 212 (72-69-71), the only player to shoot under par for the tournament. UC Irvine’s Jane Chin was second after firing a 214 (73-68-73). Chin’s second round 68 was the lowest round of the tournament. Long Beach State’s Kay Hoey (73-74-69) and Lee Lopez (74-70-72) tied for third with a score of 216. UC Irvine’s Patty Chawalitmetha fired a 74 on the final round and finished tied for 18th with a score of 231 (82-75-74). Hillary Packard was tied for 31st with a 54-total of 237 (80-78-79), while Henna Cho was tied for 41st with a score of 241 (83-76-82). Lalita Patipaksiri was tied for 48th at 244 (88-77-79). Playing as individuals, Joy Trotter placed 15th with a score of 230 (76-76-78), Mariko Makabe was 27th at 235 (82-77-76) and Sarah Fox was tied for 41st at 241 (86-76-79). UC Irvine is idle until the Big West Championships April 20-21 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
