UC Irvine Women Finish In A Tie For Second At The Big West Championships

San Luis Obispo, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s golf team finished in a tie for second at the Big West Championships held at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

 

The Anteaters shot a 303 on the final 18 holes Tuesday and ended with a 54-hole total of 930 (316-311-303), one shot behind Long Beach State who won the title with a score of 929 (308-313-308). UCI’s 303 was the lowest round for a women’s team during the tournament. UC Davis matched UCI with a 930, while Cal Poly was fourth (945), UC Riverside was fifth (954) and Cal State Northridge was sixth (971). Cal Poly’s Stephanie Yocum earned medalist honors with a 225 (80-73-72).

 

Senior Jane Chin (81-76-71) and junior Patty Chawalitmetha (74-76-78) tied for second with a score of 228. Chin’s 71 was the lowest round of the tournament for the women.  Sophomore Hillary Packard tied for seventh after carding a 233 (76-78-78). Freshman Lalita Patipaksiri was tied for 18th at 241 (84-81-76) and Mariko Makabe was tied for 20th at 243 (84-81-78).
