UC Irvine Finishes Fifth at NCAA West Regional

ST. GEORGE, Utah --- UC Irvine tied for fifth place in the NCAA West Regional that concluded Saturday at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah.

With its top-eight regional finish, Coach Julie Brooks' UCI squad advances to the NCAA Championship at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., May 22-25. This will be the program's second trip to the NCAA Championship in the six-year existence of the sport at UCI. The Anteaters finished 18th at the 2005 NCAA Finals.

Oklahoma State and Stanford tied for first in this year's West Regional with 54-hole totals of 874. Arizona State was third at 876, Denver fourth at 891, UCI and BYU tied for fifth at 898, Pepperdine was seventh at 899 and New Mexico finished eighth at 908 in the 21-team field.

UCI junior Kim Lorenzana finished 19th with a three-round score of 224 (74-73-77) on the par-71, 6,234-yard course. Freshman Henna Cho was 28th at 226 (77-77-72), freshman Patty Chawalitmetha placed 34th at 227 (72-78-77), junior Selaneé Henderson was 37th at 228 (73-80-75) and junior Jane Chin finished 63rd at 236 (76-74-86).

Pernilla Lindberg of Oklahoma State was medalist with a 7-under total of 206 (68-68-70).
