Sitting Down With Senior Women's Golfer Jane Chin

May 12, 2009

Jane Chin was named Big West Women's Golfer of the Year and has won three individual tournament titles this season. She re-wrote the UCI record books with her performace at the Kent Youel Invitational, tying the lowest score for 18 holes (66) and setting the 36-hole (134) and 54-hole total (203). The women's golf team will compete at the NCAA Championships May 19-22 at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owing Mills, Maryland.

You redshirted last year, what changes or adjustments did you make that you attribute your success to?

I changed a little bit of everything, but I really focused on improving my weaknesses and having quality practices.

What things did you learn from playing with other top golfers in the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur tournament?

The biggest thing I learned was to play better under pressure. There was always a camera crew around us and a lot of pressure. My first match was against a top opponent, and to beat her gave me a lot of confidence.

Do you have any special pre-match routines, like eating a certain meal or listening to certain music?

I like to listen to upbeat music on my iPod before a match. As far as food, I usually eat whatever is around, but not sweets because they make me jittery. I like to get the Grand Slam at Denny's whenever possible.

Who is your favorite golfer or athlete?

Tiger Woods

When you are not busy winning tournaments, what things do you like to do in your spare time?

If I am not playing golf or doing schoolwork, I like to relax and hang out with my friends. Usually I take one day off during the week, and I like to work out or go shopping.

What are your individual and team goals for the season?

Personally, I want to keep winning tournaments and keep my ranking high. For the team, I want us to make it to nationals and be ranked as one of the top teams.
