UC Irvine Women's Golf Competes At NCAA Championships

UCI COMPETES AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: The UC Irvine women’s golf team will participate in the NCAA Championships May 19-22 at the Caves Valley Golf Club, Owing Mills, Maryland.
UC Irvine will join Denver, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, Tulane, Duke, North Carolina, Georgia, UCLA, Purdue, Wake Forest, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, New Mexico, Ohio State, Chattanooga, Arizona State, USC, LSU, TCU, Texas, Arizona, Pepperdine in the tournament field. Six individuals will also compete.
Live streaming of the final two rounds of the golf championships will also be available online at www.ncaa.com. Holes 16, 17 and 18 will be streamed on Thursday and Friday, May 21 and 22. Results can be found on golfstat.com.
The teams will play 18 holes each day on the 6,443 yard, par 72 course.
UCI AT THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: This will be the program's third appearance in the last five years at the NCAA Championship. The 2005 team finished 18th and the 2007 squad placed 19th at the finals.
ANTEATERS TIE FOR FOURTH AT NCAA WEST REGIONAL: UC Irvine tied for fourth place in the NCAA West Regional at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
UCI ended in a tie for fourth with TCU and Texas with a score of 873. Arizona State won the regional title with a 54-hole total of 22-under par 842. USC finished second at 861 and LSU was third at 868. Arizona State’s Carlota Ciganda was the top individual with a 10-under total of 206.
Senior Jane Chin tied for third place at 208 (67-69-72). Her first round of 67 was tied for the second lowest round of the tournament. Junior Patty Chawalitmetha placed 35th with a score of 222 (78-70-74), while freshmen Lalita Patipaksiri (74-73-76) and Joy Trotter (73-74-78) tied for 43rd at 223. Sophomore Hillary Packard was 85th at 234 (75-78-81).
CHIN NAMED BIG WEST GOLFER OF THE YEAR: Senior Jane Chin was named Big West Women's Golfer of the Year.
Chin earned medalist honors three times this season and owns a 71.56 scoring average. The senior has finished second three times plus three other top 10 finishes this year.
Chin joins Walailak Satarak (2002) and Selaneé Henderson (2006) in winning the Player of the Year title.
Junior Patty Chawalitmetha, sophomore Hillary Packard and freshman Joy Trotter were named to the All-Big West second team.
UCI CAPTURES THREE TITLES THIS SEASON: UC Irvine has captured three tournament titles this year. In the spring, UCI won the Fresno State Lexus Classic at the Copper River Country Club with a score of 891 (297-294-300). In the fall, the Anteaters finished first at the Price’s “Give’Em Five” Invitational (881) and Coast BMW Invitational (909). It is the first time in program history that the Anteaters have won three tournaments in a single season.
ANTEATERS IN THE RANKINGS: UC Irvine enters the week ranked No. 18 in the latest Golfstat rankings and 29th on the Golfweek list.
Senior Jane Chin is ranked first in the country in the latest Golfstat rankings and is ninth by GolfWeek. Chin leads the country in Par 3 scoring (2.87) and is tied fourth in Subpar Strokes Per Round (3.50). Joy Trotter is 12th in Par 5 scoring (4.85).
