ANTEATERS OPEN SEASON AT RON MOORE INTERCOLLEGIATE: The UC Irvine women’s golf team will open the 2008-09 season at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate next Monday through Wednesday (Sept. 22-24) at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club.

The tournament features 18 holes each day on the par 72 course.

Participating teams include Baylor, Iowa State, Kentucky, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma, San Jose State, TCU, UC Davis, Arkansas-Little Rock, North Carolina-Wilmington, Wyoming and host Denver.

The Anteaters haven’t played at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate since 2005 when they finished fourth out of 14 teams (905). Jane Chin was the only member of the current team to play there, finishing 65th with a score of 249 (83-81-85).

YEAR IN REVIEW:  UC Irvine won two tournaments (Lady Aztec Fall Classic, Big West Championship) and had three individual medalists in 2007-08, including Patty Chawalitmetha who won the Lady Aztec Fall Classic, her first collegiate victory.

UCI won its fourth consecutive Big West title and fifth in the seven years of the Anteater program.

The Anteaters ended the year with a 14th place finish at the NCAA West Regional at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

CHIN RETURNS AFTER REDSHIRT YEAR: Senior Jane Chin returns after redshirting the 2007-08 season.  Chin is a three-time All-Big West honoree. She had a 76.50 scoring average as a junior.

CHAWALITMETHA BACK: Junior Patty Chawalitmetha also returns after garnering All-Big West second team honors as a sophomore. Chawalitmetha, who had two top 10 finishes, owned a 76.67 stroke average last season.

TWO NEWCOMERS DOT ROSTER: Freshmen Lalita Patipaksiri and Joy Trotter join the Anteater squad this year. Patipaksiri was named Orange County Register Player of the Year from Cypress High School, while Trotter was a two-time MVP at Ayala High School. Trotter joined Jane Chin at the U.S. Women’s Amatuer this summer. The freshmen were both members of the Southern California team that took the overall title at the 30th Girls Junior Americas Cup at Waverley Country Club in 2007.
