Women's Golf Heads to Lady Aztec Classic

LADY AZTEC NEXT: The UC Irvine women's golf team will participate in the Lady Aztec Fall Classic Oct. 15-16 at the Salt Creek Golf Course. The 36-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each day. The field includes Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Cal State San Marcos, Eastern Washington, East Tennessee State, Hawaii, Middle Tennessee State, Montana, Nevada, Northern Arizona, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Alabama-Birmingham, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Utah Valley State, Wyoming and host San Diego State. UCI finished third in the 19-team field at last year's event. Selaneé Henderson led the squad with a fourth place finish, recording a score of 144 (69-75). ANTEATERS FINISH TIED FOR SEVENTH IN FALL OPENER: The UC Irvine women shot a three round total of 923 (300-301-322) and tied Fresno State for seventh place at the Giustina Memorial Classic Golf Tournament at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.
Senior Kim Lorenzana led UCI with a 12th place finish, carding a 227 (72-75-80), while sophomore Patty Chawalitmetha was 16th with a three round score of 229 (76-75-78). Senior Selaneé Henderson was 29th with a 234 (77-77-80) and freshman Sarah Fox was 35th with a score of 243 (78-81-84). Sophomore Mariko Makabe, who shot a 149 (75-74) over the first two rounds, withdrew from competition due shoulder injury. The tournament paired the men's and women's teams from each school in a combined competition against the other schools. Teams played in foursomes that include one male and one female from each school. In the combined team event, UCI was fifth overall with a score of 1,776.
