UCI TRAVELS TO NEW MEXICO STATE INVITATIONAL: The UC Irvine women’s golf team will participate in the New Mexico State Invitational Oct. 12-14 at the New Mexico State Golf Course.

Participating teams include  Baylor, Oregon State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Arizona, Oklahoma, Idaho, UTEP, Nevada, Boise State, Kansas State, North Texas, Kansas, Fresno State, Northern Arizona, Mississippi State and host New Mexico State. The teams will be playing on a 5,858 yard, par 72 course.

 

The Anteaters are the defending tournament champions, capturing the 2008 title with a 54-hole total of 881 (293-302-286). Graduated senior Jane Chin was the medalist with a score of 212 (70-74-68). Last year, Hillary Packard finished 12th (226), while Joy Trotter and Lalita Patipaksiri tied for 15th (227).

 


 

 

IN THE RANKINGS: UCI enters the week ranked 38th by Golfstat.com and 41st by Golfweek. Joy Trotter is ranked 44th individually by Golfweek and 49th by Golfstat. Lalita Patipaksiri is ranked eighth (.957) in Fairways Hit, while Hillary Packard is ranked 22nd in Total Short Game (.696) The Anteaters ranks eighth in Par 3 scoring (.305) and 10th in total short game (.547).

 

TROTTER AMONG BIG WEST ELITE: After two tournaments, sophomore Joy Trotter is tied for the lowest scoring average in the Big West at 72.67. In the first month of the season she shot the lowest round by a Big West player with a career-best 68 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

 

ANTEATERS FAIR WELL IN SEASON OPENING TOURNAMENTS: UC Irvine opened the year with a sixth place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and a ninth place performance at the Dick McGuire Invitational.

 

The Anteaters tied the school record for lowest round with a 286 on the final round of the Golfweek Challenge. Sophomore Joy Trotter placed second with a career-best 54-hole score of 212 (73-71-68). She carded the second best round of the tournament with a 68 on the final 18.

 

Hillary Packard placed 18th with a score of 223 (80-71-72), while sophomore Lalita Patipaksiri finished 31st with a score of 228 (80-78-70), shooting a career-low 70 on the final round.  Freshman Michelle Park placed 46th with a three day total of 233 (76-77-80) and senior Mariko Makabe was 58th with a score of 236 (78-82-76).

 

At the Dick McGuire Invitational, Trotter (74-74-76) and Packard (77-73-74) led UCI with a 24th place finish, each carding a score of 224. Packard shot one-over par on the last 36 holes of the tournament. Makabe finished in a tie for 29th place with a three-round score of 225 (77-73-75), while Patipaksiri was tied for 45th with a 227 (78-74-75) and Park was tied for 74th place with a total of 233 (76-78-79).
