UC IRVINE WINS NEW MEXICO STATE INVITATIONAL: UCI won the Price's "Give `Em Five" Invitational after shooting a school record 286 on the final round at the New Mexico State Golf Course last week.

The Anteaters captured the title with a 54-hole total of 881 (293-302-286). The three day total ranks second in the UCI record books behind the score of 878 (295-293-290) set in 2005 at the Spartan Invitational. UCI's 18-hole total of 289 on the final round, betters the previous school record of 289 set at the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown in 2004.

UC Irvine led from start to finish, finishing 18 shots ahead of second place Baylor (899). It is the second consecutive tournament win for the Anteaters and the 15th in school history. It is the second time in school history that a team has won back-to-back tournaments joining the 2002 squad that won the BYU Dixie Classic and then the Big West Championship in the first year of the program.

Senior Jane Chin took home medalist honors for the second consecutive tournament with a three day total of 212 (70-74-68). Chin entered the final round in second place, but shot a 68 to top the leaderboard, four shots ahead of Colorado State's Kasey Clausen. She led the tournament field with 13 birdies and also led in Par 5 scoring with a 4.50, -6 mark. Chin joins Walailak Satarak (2002) and Selaneé Henderson (2007) as the only UCI golfers to win back-to-back tournaments in the program's history.

Junior Patty Chawalitmetha carded a two-under 70 on the final round to move up to sixth place with a score of 221 (75-76-70). Chawalitmetha led all players with 40 pars over the 54-holes. Sophomore Hillary Packard finished in a tie for 12th with a score of 226 (78-75-73), while freshmen Joy Trotter (73-79-75) and Lallita Patapaksiri (75-77-75) were tied for 15th after each recording a score of 227.

IN THE RANKINGS: UC Irvine is ranked 31st by Golfstat and 37th by Golfweek in the latest rankings. Senior Jane Chin ranks sixth in the country in Golfweek’s Oct. 13 individual rankings. In Golfstats’ statistics, Chin leads the nation in Par 3 scoring (2.77) and is fourth in Sub Par Strokes Per Round (4.11) As a team, UCI ranks seventh in Par 3 Scoring with a 3.10 mark.
