UCI CONCLUDES SUCCESSFUL FALL SCHEDULE: The UC Irvine women’s golf team concluded a successful fall schedule, winning two of the four tournaments they play in.

 

The Anteaters captured the Coast BMW Intercollegiate by a school record 47 strokes then won the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational with a school record 289 on the final round. It was the second time in school history that a team has won back-to-back tournaments joining the 2002 squad that won the BYU Dixie Classic and then the Big West Championship in the first year of the program.

 

In the final tournament of the fall, UC Irvine finished tied for second at the Kent Youel Invitational with a score of 878, which tied the school record for 54-holes.


 

 

CHIN REWRITES RECORD BOOK AT KENT YOUEL INVITATIONAL: Senior Jane Chin won the Kent Youel Invitational with a tournament record 203 (68-66-69), nine shots ahead of San Francisco’s Christina Stockton. It was Chin’s third consecutive tournament title, becoming the first UCI player to win three straight individual events. Chin’s 54-hole total of 203 was a school record as was her 36-hole score of 134. Her second round 66 matches the school record held by teammate Patty Chawalitmetha.

MORE FROM KENT YOUEL: At the Kent Youel Invitational, junior Patty Chawalitmetha matched her season low with a 70 on the final round and moved up to 21st place with a score of 223 (78-75-70). Freshman Joy Trotter was 24th with a two-day total of 224 (72-76-76) while freshman Lalita Patipaksiri finished 36 after carding a 228 (78-75-75). Sophomore Hillary Packard was 62nd with a score of 238 (82-76-80).

ANTEATERS RANKED 23RD NATIONALLY: UC Irvine moved up to No. 23 in the latest Golfstat rankings and 24th by Golfweek. Senior Jane Chin ranks third in the country in the Golfstat Cup rankings and fourth in Golfweek’s individual rankings. In Golfstats’ statistics, Chin leads the nation in Par 3 scoring (2.76), is tied for second in Sub Par Strokes Per Round (4.17), fifth in Putts On Green In Regulation (1.791) and eighth in Greens In Regulation (.796). Freshman Lalita Patipaksiri ranks eighth in Par 3 scoring with a 2.94 average. As a team, UCI ranks first in Fairways Hit at .844 and eighth in Par 3 Scoring with a 3.10 mark.

CHIN TABBED BIG WEST GOLFER OF THE MONTH: Senior Jane Chin was tabbed October's Big West Conference Female Golfer of the Month after winning all three tournaments she competed in. Chin earned medalist honors at the Coast BMW Intercollegiate, Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational and the Kent Youel Invitational. It is her second career Big West Golfer of the Month award.
