IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team defeated Cal State San Bernardino 3-2 in an exhibition match Monday night at Anteater Stadium.

Freshman Kelly Block (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) scored the winning goal for the ‘Eaters with 58 seconds left. Junior Amanda Phillips (Dublin, Calif./Fullerton College) found sophomore Tanya Taylor (Sunny Hills HS) on the left wing for a breakaway. Taylor went down the left side of the field before crossing the ball into the box finding Kelly Block who volleyed it into the net.

Junior Kate Berrini scored two first half goals giving UCI a 2-0 lead at the half. Lauren Zellmer cut UCI’s lead to 2-1 in the 58th minute. The Coyotes were awarded a penalty kick in the 81st minute and it was converted by Lindsey Jordan tying the match at 2-2.


 

 

Senior keeper Erin Henry (Mater Dei HS) had one save in 45 minutes. Freshman keeper Erica Quevedo (Northridge/North Hills Prep) had zero saves and allowed two goals in 45 minutes of action. Keeper Laura Lyons had four saves and allowed three goals for the Coyotes.

The Anteaters kick off the regular season Sunday as they host UNLV at 5:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
