Women's Soccer:
Anteaters Defeat Texas State 2-1

IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (2-1) defeated Texas State 2-1 Friday night in non-conference play at Anteater Stadium. The ‘Eaters were awarded a penalty kick following a foul inside the box by Texas State 12:08 into the match. Sophomore Judy Christopher (Ontario/Upland HS) took the kick and converted it to put the ‘Eaters up 1-0. In the 55th minute junior Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) kicked the ball to freshman Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) in the corner where she crossed the ball into the box and connected with freshman Mar Rodriguez (Santa Ana/Valley HS) who put the ‘Eaters up 2-0. The Bobcats cut the lead to 2-1 in the 55th minute as Britney Curry took an assist from Lauren Lewis inside the box and found the back of the net. The ‘Eaters held off the Bobcats for the remainder of the match, Serena Hines came close to tying the match as she had a shot go just wide in the 79th minute.
Junior keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had three saves for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Deborah Ross had seven saves for Texas State. The ‘Eaters will hit the road as they travel to Reno, Nev. Sunday to face Nevada at 1:00 p.m. at Mackay Stadium.
