CEDAR CITY, Utah – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (3-4) defeated Southern Utah 2-0 Monday afternoon in non-conference play at Thunderbird Soccer Field.

Sophomore Milana Shabestari (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) put UCI up 1-0 as she dribbled the ball towards the goal and flipped the ball to near post as the keeper went the opposite direction in the 21st minute. Sophomore Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) gave the ‘Eaters a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute as she blasted the ball in from 12 yards out after the ball bounced around the box following a corner kick.

Sophomore keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had two saves in the first half. Senior keeper Erin Henry (Irvine/Mater Dei HS) had one save as she started the second half for UCI and played 31 minutes. Freshman keeper Erica Quevedo (Northridge/North Hills Prep) completed the shutout and had one save in 14 minutes for UCI. McKenzie Hadley had four saves for the Thunderbirds.

The Anteaters return home Friday as they host the UC Irvine Invitational. UCI will play in the second game of a doubleheader as they host Weber State at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
