IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (4-5) lost 2-1 in overtime to Saint Mary’s Sunday afternoon in the UC Irvine Invitational at Anteater Stadium.

Ashley Nied put Saint Mary’s up 1-0 in the 18th minute as she scored off a cross from Ashley Soro. Junior Kate Berrini (Foster City/Notre Dame HS) scored her fourth goal of the weekend to tie the match at 1-1 in the 85th minute off assists from sophomore Nikki Forrest (Upland HS) and sophomore Alyssa Humphrey (Rancho Santa Margarita/Santa Margarita HS). The Gaels won the match as Alex Cilento crossed the ball into Ashley Nied who scored her second of the match.

Sophomore keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had four saves for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Tara Larson had four saves for the Gaels.

The Gaels and Cal State Bakersfield were named Co-Champions of the UC Irvine Invitational. Ashley Nied of Saint Mary’s and Alexa Ngo of Cal State Bakersfield were named Co-MVPs. Kate Berrini, freshman Judy Christopher (Ontario/Upland HS) and Alyssa Humphrey were the three Anteaters to make the All-Tournament team.


 

 

The Anteaters return to action Friday as they host San Francisco in the second match of a doubleheader with the UCI men’s team, kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
