IRVINE, Calif.  - The UC Irvine women's soccer team (7-7-1, 1-2-1) lost 2-1 to Cal State Fullerton Friday night in Big West Conference play at Anteater Stadium.

 

The Titans had an opportunity in the 20th minute as Christina Murillo shot the ball from just outside the box on the left side and was headed out by sophomore Sarah Busby (San Diego/El Capitan HS) to keep the score 0-0. UCI took a 1-0 lead as sophomore Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) crossed the ball from the left side of the box to the right where she found sophomore Milana Shabestari (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) who knocked it past the keeper in the 55th minute. The Titans tied the match at 1-1 as Janae Deas blasted the ball from 40 yards out and was deflected inside the box and just over the fingers of the keeper in the 76th minute. In the 78th minute, the Titans capitalized on a loose ball in the box and was knocked in by Christina Murillo to take a 2-1 lead.


 

 

 

Erica Quevedo had two saves to go along with the team save by Busby for the ‘Eaters. Shannon Simpson had three saves for the Titans.

 

The ‘Eaters return to action Sunday as they travel to the Inland Empire to face UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. at UCR Soccer Stadium.
