Women's Soccer:
Anteaters Start Spring Season
Feb. 5, 2009
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The UC Irvine women’s soccer team opened their 2009 spring season against a Women’s National Team comprised of players from the U20 and U18 squads. The game was played at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista and with a beautiful spring morning it was a fine way to kick off 2009. The ‘Eaters began well and got in amongst the US players giving them no time to settle on the ball. Chances fell to Lexi Kopf and Gilly Acedo early in the game and although these chances were not converted the team looked strong. The US team capitalized on both their chances and at half-time the score was 2-0. The second half was equally well fought and again the UCI offense created chances. Gilly Acedo raced onto one excellent through ball and slid the ball just to the wrong side of the post. Freshman keeper, Erica Quevedo, kept the National team from increasing their lead and the game finished 2-0. The team plays its next spring games against San Diego and Cal State Northridge on February 14th.
