IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine Athletics joined the City of Irvine July 22 in the Healthy Youth Expo at Las Lomas Community Park. Over 800 local youth attended the event, which was complete with activity areas, interactive vender booths and inflatable games.

The Ready, FIT, Go - Healthy Youth Expo was designed to help develop the knowledge and abilities of youth to be physically active, and to make healthy nutritional choices. The expo provided participants the opportunity to experience and gain a basic level of skill in a variety of activities that may be pursued through one's lifetime. Activities included sports clinics and demos, (i.e. soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, and football), an interactive lesson on healthy eating, and a freestyle BMX finale performed by "Wheels of Freestyle."

UC Irvine women's soccer players Alyssa Humphrey, Rachel Flemming, Danielle de Seriere and Raylean Robles joined men's soccer players Indar Smith, D.J. Vigil, David Sias and Rafael Macedo to run the sports clinics throughout the day. The participants received a special surprise when Peter the Anteater arrived at the expo to take pictures and hand out prizes from the UC Irvine booth. Many of the campers took photos, played tug of war, and danced with Peter throughout the afternoon.

UC Irvine Athletics is proud to partner with various local community organizations to promote nutrition, fitness and an active lifestyle to Irvine youth.
