Anteaters at Cal State Northridge

ANTEATERS AT CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE: The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (10-5-2, 3-2-1) will head to Northridge Sunday to face Cal State Northridge in Big West play at 2:30 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field.

With two weeks left in the regular season the ‘Eaters are currently fourth in the Big West with 10 points overall. Cal Poly (15 points), UC Santa Barbara (12 points) and Cal State Northridge (12 points) are in the top three places entering the week. Pacific is just behind UCI with nine points.


ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Matadors are 8-8 overall and 4-2 in Big West play. Farryn Townley leads CSUN with 16 points. Keeper Leah Elliott has a 1.84 goals against average and one shutout on the year.


WEEK IN REVIEW: The ‘Eaters went 1-0-1 last week with a 2-1 win in double overtime over UC Riverside and a 1-1 tie at Cal State Fullerton. Freshman Dana Sanderlin (Upland HS), sophomore Judy Christopher (Upland HS) and junior Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) each recorded goals on the week. Sophomore keeper Kala Gabler (Apple Valley/Hope International) had two saves in UCI’s win against UCR.


ODDS & ENDS: UCI has 14 players that have recorded a point this season, including goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere. UCI is 9-1 in matches that have ended in a regulation 90 minutes this season with four matches decided in overtime, two ties and a loss to
Arizona State in a weather-shortened match.

The team had an eight game unbeaten streak earlier this season, the third longest in school history. The team is ranked 10th in the West Region by the NSCAA.


ANTEATER LEADERS: Freshman Dana Sanderlin and Tanya Taylor lead the team with 16 points on six goals and four assists each. Freshmen Mar Rodriguez (Santa Ana/Valley HS) and Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) are tied for third with 12 points each. Danielle de Seriere has 49 saves, seven shutouts and a 0.98 goals against average this season.


UCI RECORD BOOK: Danielle de Seriere is second all-time in shutouts with 19 and is fifth all-time with 177 saves. Her goals against average of 0.86 is the lowest career total in UCI history. Tanya Taylor is tied for 10th with 13 goals and 11th with 35 career points.
Taylor is tied for eighth with five career game-winning goals and is 16th with nine career assists. Senior Kate Berrini (Foster City/Notre Dame HS) is tied for 13th all-time in goals with 11 and is 23rd in total points with 25. Senior Caty Cope (Northwood HS) is tied for 13th with 10 career assists.

HEAD COACH Scott Juniper: The Anteaters are led by head coach
Scott Juniper who is in his third season leading the Anteaters.  In his first two seasons at UCI, Juniper has a 19-16-4 record overall and a 7-6-3 record in Big West matches. UCI reached the Big West Tournament in his first season and has steadily moved up the national rankings since Juniper took over the program.
