ANTEATERS FACE CAL POLY IN BIG WEST TOURNAMENT: The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (12-6-2, 4-3-1) finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Big West and earned the No. 4 seed in the Big West Tournament thanks to a pair of tie-breakers. UCI will head to San Luis Obispo to take on No. 1 seed Cal Poly Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
The winner will then face either No. 2 seed Cal State Northridge or No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the site of the highest remaining seed.
BIG WEST TOURNAMENT TEAMS: The Mustangs are 13-5 on the year. The team has not allowed a goal since UCI scored twice on them October 4th a total of six straight matches. Morgan Miller and Tiffany Gummow lead the team with 10 points each. Keeper Coral Hoover has a 0.59 goals against average and 10 shutouts on the year.
The Matadors are 10-9 overall and playing in just their second Big West Tournament. Farryn Townley leads CSUN with 18 points. They have had five different players play goalkeeper this season, including four who have made at least two starts in net.
The Gauchos are 8-9-2 overall on the year. Kailyn Kugler has 23 points to lead UCSB. Keepers Tammy Lenham and Ali Cutler have split time in net for the Gauchos.
’EATERS IN THE BIG WEST TOURNAMENT: This is UCI’s fifth trip to the Big West Tournament and the first since 2007. UCI is 3-3 all-time in the tournament and won the 1997 championship. The ‘Eaters lost 2-1 at Cal State Fullerton in double overtime in the semifinals two years ago in UCI’s last appearance.
WEEK IN REVIEW: The ‘Eaters went 2-0 on the week including a 3-0 win against Long Beach State and a 2-0 win against Gonzaga. Senior Kate Berrini (Foster City/Notre Dame HS) had three goals on the week including both goals on senior day against the ‘Zags. Keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had three saves as she earned her eighth shutout of the year against the 49ers. Sophomore keeper Kala Gabler (Apple Valley/Hope International) had eight saves as she earned her first shutout as an Anteater against Gonzaga.
ODDS & ENDS: UCI has 14 players that have recorded a point this season, including goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere. UCI is 11-2 in matches that have ended in a regulation 90 minutes this season with four matches decided in overtime, two ties and a loss to Arizona State in a weather-shortened match.
The team had an eight game unbeaten streak earlier this season, the third longest in school history.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Freshman Dana Sanderlin (Upland HS) and junior Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) lead the team with 16 points on six goals and four assists each. Freshman Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) is third with 13 points. Freshman Mar Rodriguez (Santa Ana/Valley HS) is fourth with12 points each. Danielle de Seriere has 60 saves, eight shutouts and a 0.93 goals against average this season.
UCI RECORD BOOK: Danielle de Seriere is second all-time in shutouts with 20 and is fifth all-time with 186 saves. Her goals against average of 0.84 is the lowest career total in UCI history. Tanya Taylor is tied for 11th with 13 goals and 11th with 35 career points. Taylor is tied for eighth with five career game-winning goals and is 16th with nine career assists. Senior Kate Berrini is 10th all-time in goals with 14 and is 14th in total points with 31. Senior Caty Cope (Northwood HS) is tied for 13th with 10 career assists.

HEAD COACH Scott Juniper: The Anteaters are led by head coach Scott Juniper who is in his third season leading the Anteaters. In his first two seasons at UCI, Juniper has a 19-16-4 record overall and a 7-6-3 record in Big West matches. UCI reached the Big West Tournament in his first season and has steadily moved up the national rankings since Juniper took over the program.
