Mike Edles enters his 13th season as head coach, turning the Anteater program into a conference and national contender.

In 2007, Edles was named ITA West Region Coach of the Year. Edles led UCI to the Big West Regular Season Championship with a perfect 8-0 record. The Anteaters advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

In 2006, UCI finished second at the Big West Championships and ended the year ranked 53rd in the nation.

In 2005, UCI took third at the Big West Championships in Indian Wells and ended the year ranked 73rd nationally. Anna Bentzer was named Big West Player of the Year for the second straight season following a 19-4 season at No. 1 singles. UCI finished with a 14-10 record including a 6-3 record against Big West opponents.

In 2004, the Anteaters reached the championships of the Big West Championships in Indian Wells matching the finishes of the 2000 and 2002 teams. The team ended the season ranked 66th in the country. UCI finished with a 15-8 record in dual matches including a 5-2 win over 34th ranked San Diego State.

In 2003, UCI reached the semifinals of the Big West Championships in Danville and ended the season ranked 59th in the country. The Anteaters finished with a 14-10 record in dual matches including a 5-2 win over traditional power Pepperdine.

In 2002, Edles was named Big West Coach of the Year for the second time in three years. UCI finished the season with a 17-7 record in dual matches including a 9-1 record against Big West schools. The Anteaters finished the season ranked 67th after being ranked as high as 54th during the season.

In 2001, UC Irvine reached a national ranking of 53, the second highest since 1983. The Anteaters finished the year 7-17 overall, but 10 of their losses came against ranked opponents and another three to opponents who were ranked at some point during the year.

In 2000, Edles was named Big West Coach of the Year as he guided UCI to an 18-7 overall record, the most wins since 1988. The team was nationally ranked for the first time since 1983 with a final ranking of No. 50. The team advanced to the title match of the Big West championships for the first time ever.

Edles, who coached three NCAA Division II national championship teams and eight conference championship programs, returned to his alma mater in 1997 to become the third head women's tennis coach in UC Irvine history.

Edles was a four-year player for the Anteater tennis team from 1975-79, earning NCAA All-America honors in singles and doubles in 1977, when UCI won the NCAA Division II championship. He earned his B.A. degree in economics from UCI in 1979.

He moved into the coaching ranks following his graduation, serving as head men's tennis coach at Cal State Bakersfield from 1979-82, leading that school to California Collegiate Athletic Association championships in 1981 and 1982.

He was head men's tennis coach at Chapman University from 1982-88, guiding the Panthers to four CCAA titles and NCAA Division II championships in 1985, 1987 and 1988. Edles was named NCAA Division II Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1988.

He served as head men's tennis coach at Cal State Hayward from 1988-92, collecting a Northern California Athletic Conference championship in 1991.

Edles was the head women's coach at Boise State from 1992-95, leading the Broncos to their first-ever Big Sky Conference championship in that sport in 1995, when he was named conference coach of the year. He was 42-26 overall while at Boise State.

He served as assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis teams in 1996-97 at the University of Hawaii, where his wife, Laura, was a sociology professor. The Edles' have two children, Benson (20) and Eleanor (17).
