No. 58 Anteaters Lose 7-0 at No. 12 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 58 UC Irvine women's tennis team (1-2) lost 7-0 to No. 12 UCLA Wednesday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
UCLA won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Noelle Hickey and Pamela Montez beat junior Becka Kwan (San Diego/Torrey Pines) and sophomore Hannah Holladay (La Jolla HS) 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. Junior Brooke Bartlett (Fountain Valley HS) and freshman Kristina Smith (Dana Hills HS) lost 8-5 to Carling Seguso and Maya Johnsson in the No. 3 match. Sophomores Stephanie Hammel (Placentia/Valencia HS) and Courtney Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep HS) fell 8-4 to the No. 10 ranked team of Yasmin Schnack and Andrea Remynse in No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Stephanie Hoffpauir defeated Byron 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 match to put UCLA up 2-0. No. 5 Schnack downed No. 109 Hammel 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 position for a 3-0 Bruin lead. Nina Pantic clinched the team victory for UCLA with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bartlett in the No. 4 match. Johansson made it 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Smith in No. 6 singles. Kwan lost 6-7, 6-3, 11-9 to Seguso in the No. 5 match to make it 6-0 UCLA. Noelle Hickey closed out the match defeating freshman April Bisharat (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) 6-3, 7-6 in No. 2 singles.
The Anteaters will return to Los Angles, Thursday, Februay 11th as they play Loyola Marymount at 1:30 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Center.
