Anteaters Lose 5-2 to Gauchos

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 62 UC Irvine women's tennis team (5-5, 3-2) lost 5-2 to UC Santa Barbara Friday afternoon in Big West play at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The Anteaters won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Becka Kwan (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) and sophomore Hannah Holladay (La Jolla HS) beat Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf 8-5 in the No. 1 match. Sophomore Courtney Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep HS) and freshman Kristina Smith (Dana Hills HS) defeated Tova Hausman and Jull Damion 8-5 in No. 2 doubles. Juniors Hayley and Miranda Young (Newport Beach/Tufts Univ.) lost 9-7 to Bryanna Ojeda and Asagi Onaga in the No. 3 match.
The Gauchos would win five of the six singles matches to win the overall match. Kristina Smith defeated Dockendorf 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 singles for UCI’s lone win in singles.
The Anteaters return to action Sunday, March 21st as they host No. 54 Nebraska at 11:00 a.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
