STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 53 UC Irvine women's tennis team (12-7, 6-1) defeated Pacific Sunday afternoon in Big West Conference play at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead as they won two of the three doubles matches clinching the doubles point. Seniors Becky Bernhard and Inna Agababian defeated Svenja Arens and Kateryna Nezhura 8-7in the No. 1 match for UCI's lone win.
In singles, junior Heidi Kaloi tied the match at 1-1 as she beat Sasha Fisher 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 6 match. Senior Jessica Broadfoot defeated Clara Schuhmacher 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 slot to give UCI a 2-1 lead. Freshman Rebecca Kwan defeated Olga Gumenyuk 7-5, 6-3 in No. 4 singles to put the `Eaters up 3-1. Becky Bernhard clinched the overall win for UCI as she beat Jolanta Twarowska 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 in the No. 1 match. Svenja Arens beat Inna Agababian 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot to cut the UCI lead to 4-2. Junior Clare Fermin concluded the match as she beat Kateryna Nezhura 7-5, 7-5 in No. 3 singles.
The Anteaters will return to action Friday, April 11th as they host New Mexico State in non-conference play at 1:30 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
