Anteaters lose 4-0 to Long Beach State in Big West Championship

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - The No. 59 UC Irvine women's tennis team (16-9) lost 4-0 to No. 39 Long Beach State Sunday afternoon in the Big West Championship match at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The 49ers won two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Hannah Grady and Stephanie Bengson defeated seniors Inna Agababian and Becky Bernhard 8-0 in the No. 1 match. Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton beat senior Jessica Broadfoot and junior Ali Borowicz 8-2 in the No. 3 match to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Stephanie Bengson defeated Inna Agababian 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 match to put the 49ers up 2-0. Stephanie Jeanes beat freshman Brooke Bartlett 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 4 slot. Deborah Armstrong clinched the overall team win for Long Beach State with a 7-5, 6-4 win over junior Clare Fermin in the No. 3 slot. The matches at No. 1, No. 5. and No. 6 were in the third set when the match was completed.

The Anteaters end the season with a 16-9 record overall.
