NO. 35 ANTEATERS HOST THREE: The No. 35 UC Irvine women's tennis team (4-4, 2-0) will host No. 51 San Diego State Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium. UCI then hosts San Francisco Friday at 1:30 p.m. and then hosts No. 48 Saint Mary's Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

 


 

 

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The No. 51 Aztecs are 5-4 on the year. Holly Bagshaw and Eliska Krausova are the top two singles players for SDSU.

 

The Dons are 3-4 this season as they begin the week. USF will face Pepperdine before arriving in Irvine. Jennifer Heinser is USF's top singles player.

 

The No. 48 Gaels start the week with a 6-1 record overall and play San Jose State and Long Beach State before UCI. No. 47 Jessica Hoath is SMC's No. 1 player in singles.

 

WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters went 2-0 on the week with 5-2 win at Loyola Marymount and a 4-3 win over Nevada. The match against Nevada was held Monday after being postponed due to rain. Junior Clare Fermin and freshman Brooke Bartlett each went 2-0 in singles on the week to lead the team.

 

ANTEATERS RANKED 35TH: The Anteaters are ranked 35th in the country by the ITA rankings and is the highest ranking this season for UCI. UCI had it's highest preseason ranking ever as they started the year off ranked 37th. The Anteaters finished the 2006-07 season ranked 35th nationally after a first round loss to Texas in the NCAA Tournament to finish with a 21-5 record. UCI was ranked as high as No. 28 in the country during the season as the team won the Big West regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.

 

ANTEATER LEADERS: Senior Jessica Broadfoot and junior Ali Borowicz lead the team with 4-3 records in singles this season. The doubles team of Borowicz and junior Heidi Kaloi is 3-2 on the year at the No. 3 position to lead the team.

 

SENIOR Becky Bernhard IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Becky Bernhard was ranked as high as No. 81 in the Fila/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings in 2007. Bernhard was named Big West Player of the Week six times last season and a total of nine times in her career, more than any women's tennis player in Big West history and more than any athlete at UCI in Big West sports.
