NO. 66 ANTEATERS OFF THIS WEEK: The No. 66 UC Irvine women's tennis team (9-6, 3-1) will be off from competition this week for finals. The team returns Friday, March 28^th as they as they host Boise State at 11:00 a.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

 

WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters went 2-0 on the week with a 7-0 win over Cal State Fullerton and a 6-1 win over Yale. Senior Becky Bernhard (Roseville/Oakmont HS), senior Jessica Broadfoot (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), freshman Brooke Bartlett (Fountain Valley HS), junior Heidi Kaloi (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Kamehameha HS) and junior Ali Borowicz (Santa Rosa/Montgomery HS) each went 2-0 on the week for the `Eaters.

 

ANTEATERS RANKED 66^TH: The Anteaters are ranked 66^th in the country by the ITA rankings and is the highest ranking this season for UCI. UCI had it's highest preseason ranking ever as they started the year off ranked 37^th.

 

The Anteaters finished the 2006-07 season ranked 35th nationally after a first round loss to Texas in the NCAA Tournament to finish with a 21-5 record. UCI was ranked as high as No. 28 in the country during the season as the team won the Big West regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.

 

ANTEATER LEADERS: Brooke Bartlett leads the team with a 9-3 record. Heidi Kaloi is second with a 8-3 record in singles this season. The doubles team of Borowicz and Bartlett is 5-1 on the year at the No. 3 position to lead the team.

 

SENIOR Becky Bernhard IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Becky Bernhard was ranked as high as No. 81 in the Fila/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings in 2007. Bernhard was named Big West Player of the Week six times last season and a total of nine times in her career, more than any women's tennis player in Big West history and more than any athlete at UCI in Big West sports.
