ANTEATERS’ SEASON CONCLUDES WITH SECOND PLACE FINISH: The No. 56 UC Irvine women’s tennis team (16-8, 7-1) concluded the 2009 season Sunday losing 4-1 to No. 1 seed Long Beach State in the Big West Championship match.
WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters finished second at the Big West Championship for the second straight season. UCI defeated UC Davis 6-0 and UC Santa Barbara 4-3 before losing 4-1 to Long Beach State. Senior Heidi Kaloi (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Kamehameha School) led the ‘Eaters going 2-0 in singles.
ANTEATERS RANKED 56th: The Anteaters are currently ranked 56th in the country by the ITA rankings. The ‘Eaters have been ranked as high as 27th in the nation this season. UCI concluded the 2008 season ranked 62nd.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Senior Heidi Kaloi (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Kamehameha School) is 16-4 in dual matches to lead the team. Sophomore Becka Kwan (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) is right behind her with a 16-6 record in singles. UCI’s best doubles team has been the team of freshman Courtney Byron and sophomore Miranda Young who have gone 14-5. UCI had four players win at least 20 singles matches overall on the year for the second time in the past three seasons.
