DAVIS, Calif. --- Lauren Kellerman led UC Irvine with 15 kills and Kari Pestolesi recorded her 11th double-double match of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs as the Anteaters swept UC Davis 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 Saturday at The Pavilion. The win lifted UCI to 3-2 in the Big West and 8-10 overall while the Aggies remained winless in league play at 0-6 (8-11 overall).

Kellerman added six digs, a service ace and a pair of block assists while Pestolesi registered a season-high .478 clip, committing just one error in 23 attempts. Pestolesi also added a service winner while putting up a block assist in the effort. Libero Devon Sutherland tied for the team-high with 13 digs while Alexandra Filkins logged a career-high, matching Sutherland's13 digs. Filkins also totaled a block assist and a solo stuff while putting away five of eight attempts for a .375 average. Setter Taryn Robertson handed out 40 assists and picked up five digs and Riley Cropper recorded an errorless performance, connecting on eight of 14 attempts for a .571 average while leading the team with four block assists.

The two teams battled early with the Anteaters taking a three-point lead at 12-9 on a service error by Avreeta Singh in the first set. The Aggies rallied to knot the score at 13-13 and claimed a 16-14 edge on a kill from Renee Ibekwe. However, at 16-16, UCI went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-16 lead with Robertson finding Kellerman on three plays. The Anteaters sealed the first set scoring the final three points with Kellerman winning it with a service ace.

UCI established the early lead in the second set at 10-6 on a quick kill from Cropper and the Anteaters widened the margin to six points (16-10) with Robertson putting the ball away on the second touch. UC Davis shaved the lead to three several times with the last coming at 22-19 as Carson Lowden connected with Chantal Paschetta but UCI again scored the final three points to take a two-set lead.

 

 

The Anteaters opened the final frame with three consecutive points but UC Davis kept the set close. Neither team was able to claim a comfortable lead until UCI scored four straight to turn a 16-16 tie into a 20-16 advantage with Kayla Varney committing back-to-back attack errors in the run. A kill from Paschetta cut the lead to one at 22-21 but for the third time in the match, UCI scored the final three points to end the set as UC Davis committed three straight errors.
