Former Anteater Whitney Pavlik Named AVP Rookie of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. --- Former UC Irvine women's volleyball player, Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was named the AVP Rookie of the Year on the women's side at the players' banquet, honoring the top performers of the 2008 AVP Crocs Tour season. Pavlik placed in the Top 10 in 10 of the 15 tournaments she participated in, finishing a career best fifth in the Boulder, Colo. tournament. Pavlik, who played at UC Irvine in 2004 and 2005, transferred from the University of Montana and started as an outside hitter as a junior. She recorded a career-high 14 kills against California and Cal State Northridge while picking up a personal-best 16 digs against Utah State. She moved to the middle blocker's position as a senior and excelled, earning All-Big West first-team honors after posting 93 total blocks and 277 kills. Pavlik totaled a career-high nine block assists against Santa Clara and a season-high nine digs against Eastern Michigan. She holds the top spot in the UCI match records with a .909 hitting percentage against Missouri-Kansas City, putting away 10 of 11 attempts with no errors. Pavlik is also sixth in the career records with a .293 hitting percentage and fourth in the season annals (.369).
