IRVINE, Calif. --- The UC Irvine Women's Volleyball program will add offense next season as Taylor Smith and Courtney Moeller headline the 2009 recruiting class as announced by assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Sabrina Hernandez.

"We are very excited about this incoming class," said Hernandez. "These are talented individuals, who come from winning programs and have the competitive edge to be successful at the Division I level."

Smith (San Jose, CA), a 6-0 right-side hitter from Archbishop Mitty High School, is an All-Western Catholic Athletic League honoree. Smith, playing for the section championship this Saturday against Mountain View High School, was voted an AVCA Under Armour High School second-team All-American.

Moeller (Anaheim, CA), a 6-1 outside hitter from Canyon High School, was tabbed team Most Valuable Player in 2007 and 2008. The four-year varsity letterwinner is also a two-time All-Century League first-team choice. Moeller was most recently named a 2009 Senior Ace by PrepVolleyball, an honor recognizing the top seniors in the country.

The Anteaters also bring in a standout setter in Marissa Alvarez (Redwood City/Sacred Heart Prep). Alvarez, 5-9, is a three-time All-West Catholic Athletic League honoree and was voted the league's Most Valuable Player in 2008. Recognized by PrepVolleyball as a 2009 Senior Ace, Alvarez played three years with City Beach Volleyball Club, which qualified for the Junior Olympics each of her years.

Justyn Bonomi (Westminster, CA), a 5-4 libero out of Saint Joseph High School, was tabbed the team's Best Defensive Player in 2005 and 2006. She captured MVP honors in 2007 and is a two-time All-Del Ray League first-team choice. Bonomi also collected All-Mayfair Tournament first-team honors and was voted to the L.A. County Dream Team second team.
