IRVINE, Calif. --- Three student-athletes have signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvine women's volleyball program as announced by head coach Paula Weishoff.

"We are excited about our incoming class," said Weishoff. "They have tremendous upside and can make an impact right away for the Anteater program. They have all been a part of winning teams and they know what is necessary to be successful and competitive at UC Irvine," said Weishoff.

Shannon Fleming, a 6-1 middle blocker, led Archbishop Mitty High School to its second Division II state championship in the Bren Events Center earlier this month. Fleming, who was recently named a 2009 Under Armour All-American honorable mention, is a three-time West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) champion, earning all-league honorable mention honors in 2008 and second-team recognition in 2009. She was also voted a Mercury News honorable mention selection and was honored on the Durango All-Tournament team.

Arielle Manz, a 6-3 middle blocker at Redondo Beach High School, was voted the team's Most Improved Player in 2007 and 2008. The two-time scholar-athlete helped her team capture a gold medal at the Junior Olympics in 2009.

Shaina Olsen, a 6-1 outside hitter, is a three-year varsity letterwinner at St. Francis High School. She helped the team to the CIF Division II finals and CIF Northern Regional Finals. Olsen posted the second-best marks in blocks and aces in the WCAL in 2008 and was the league leader in kills as a senior. She helped the team to two Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) league titles and was an All-WCAL honoree in 2009. Nominated to the 2009 AVCA Under Armour National Student-Athlete watch list, Olsen is a two-time scholar-athlete. She has played seven years with Vision Volleyball Club and is a six-time qualifier of the Junior Olympics.
