Jessy Cardey Takes Home Big West Honors

IRVINE, Calif. --- Junior attacker Jessy Cardey (Riverside / Poly HS) rode her hot streak into a Big West Water Polo Player of the Week award.
Cardey posted nine goals over the weekend in just two matches. That included a six-goal game to open the CBU Lancer Invite on the campus of Cal Baptist against the Hartwick Hawks. It was the fifth time in program history that an Anteater has scored at least six goals in a game. The nine goals give her 19 on the year to lead the team. In addition, Cardey has built a six-game goal scoring streak through UCI's first six games. Including the streak to end 2011, Cardey has scored in 23 consecutive matches, an 'Eater record, and has scored multiple goals in the last nine.
For Cardey, it is her second Big West POTW award joining the one she earned on Feb. 16th, 2011. The 'Eaters earned five Player of the Week awards last season. This is the 11th time total that UCI has earned the award.
Cardey and the Anteaters head out on the road this weekend in the UCSD Triton Invite in La Jolla, Calif. UCI will open against Marist on Sat. Feb. 11 at 8:00 a.m. with its three remaining opponents still to be determined.
