No. 11 `Eaters Top California Baptist 12-8

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 11 UC Irvine women’s water polo team (6-3) defeated California Baptist 12-8 Saturday night in non-conference play at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The ‘Eaters outscored the Lancers 3-0 in the second period to take a 6-3 lead at the half following a 3-3 tie after the first period. CBU scored four straight goals to start the third period taking a 7-6 lead with 3:49 remaining. The teams alternated goals with UCI tying the match at 8-8 heading into the final period. UCI shut out the Lancers in the final period to secure the 12-8 victory.

Junior Caitlin Haskell (Fresno/Buchanan HS) led UCI with four goals. Petra Kovacs had four goals for CBU. Junior keeper Lauren Davis (Downey HS) had a career high 15 saves for UCI. Keeper Camryn Rogers had eight saves for California Baptist.

The ‘Eaters host the UC Irvine Invitational starting Saturday and going through Sunday at both Anteater Aquatics Complex and Corona del Mar HS. UCI opens the tournament Saturday hosting Hawaii at 12:45 p.m. at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
