NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - No. 6 San Diego State defeated No. 10 UC Irvine 9-8 Sunday at the UC Irvine Women's Water Polo Invitational at Corona del Mar High School.

San Diego State led UCI 8-6 heading into the fourth period. Goals by senior Jessica Lewis and Gianna Rossi tied the match at 8-8 with 3:02 remaining. Danielle Pelke scored the gamewinning goal for the Aztecs on a power play with 12 seconds left in the match.

San Diego State will play Arizona State in the 9th place match at 1:30 p.m. and UC Irvine will next play Long Beach State at 2:45 in the 11th place match at Corona del Mar High School.
