BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 11 UC Irvine women's water polo team (8-6, 1-3) lost 5-3 to No. 3 California Saturday in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play at Spieker Aquatics Center.

 

The Golden Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Senior Nicole Flacco cut the lead to 2-1 as she scored with 4:05 left in the second period. The Bears would score two goals to give Cal a 4-1 lead 28 seconds into the third period. Sophomore Kat Plummer cut the lead to 4-2 with 1:13 remaining in the third period. Senior Jessica Lewis got the `Eaters to within one goal as she made it 4-3 with 6:46 left in the final period. Darby Anderson would give Cal a 5-3 lead with 2:43 left to seal the victory.


 

 

 

Senior keeper Lauren Machanis had 13 saves for UCI. Keeper Heather Stuart had 18 saves for the Golden Bears.

 

The Anteaters return to action Sunday as they travel to Stockton to face Pacific in MPSF play at 12:00 p.m. at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
