No. 13 `Eaters Held Off By No. 4 UCLA; Lose 8-5

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 13 UC Irvine women’s water polo team (7-10) lost 8-5 to No. 4 UCLA Thursday night in non-conference play at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The Bruins took a 2-0 lead after the first period and built up to a 5-2 lead at halftime. The Anteaters would get within two goals as freshman Kelsey Klatt (Fresno/Sunnyside HS) made a steal and sprinted down the pool and finding the back of the net to make it 7-5 with just under a minute left in the third period. UCLA would shut down the Anteaters in their comeback attempt as they added a fourth period goal for an 8-5 final.

Priscilla Orozco had four goals in the match for the Bruins. Senior Kat Plummer (Thousand Oaks HS) led UCI with two goals. Keeper Caitlin Dement had 11 saves for UCLA while sophomore keeper Morgan Vickers (Newport Harbor HS) had seven saves for the Anteaters.

 

UCI will return to action Saturday, March 20th as they host Bucknell at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference action at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
