IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 7 UC Irvine women's water polo team (11-7) defeated No. 15 Indiana 10-1 Thursday night in non-conference play at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Anteaters took a 3-0 lead with 3:06 remaining in the first period as sophomore Kat Plummer scored for the `Eaters. Brooke Zimmerman scored the Hoosiers lone goal of the match with 29 seconds left in the opening period to cut the lead to 3-1. The Anteaters went on to score seven straight goals to close out the match with a 10-1 victory.
Plummer, sophomore Erin Kiene and senior Jessica Lewis each had two goals to lead the `Eaters. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis had 13 saves for the `Eaters in three quarters. Sophomore keeper Kelsey Wilcox had two saves including a block on a penalty throw in one period for UCI. Keeper Katie Carson had nine saves for the Hoosiers.
The Anteaters return to action Wednesday, March 26th as they travel to Pomona to take on Pomona-Pitzer at 5:00 p.m. in non-conference play at Haldeman Pool.
