No. 13 `Eaters Fall 11-9 at No. 10 Cal State Northridge in Overtime

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The No. 13 UC Irvine women’s water polo team (9-12, 0-1) lost 11-9 in overtime to No. 10 Cal State Northridge Friday afternoon in Big West action at Matador Pool.

 

The ‘Eaters and Matadors played an even first period before the Matadors pulled away in the second period to take a 5-3 lead at halftime. The Anteaters came back to tie the match at 6-6 heading into the fourth period. Each team scored twice in the fourth period to send the match into overtime. The Matadors scored three goals in the opening overtime period. UCI cut the lead to 11-9, but it wouldn’t be enough to make a complete comeback as CSUN won 11-9.

 

Junior Cortney Collyer (Santa Barbara HS) and freshman Kelsey Klatt (Fresno/Sunnyside HS) each had two goals for the ‘Eaters. Sophomore keeper Morgan Vickers (Newport Harbor HS) had six saves for UCI while keeper Jillian Stapf had 12 saves for the Matadors.

 

UCI will head to Santa Barbara to face No. 12 UC Santa Barbara Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Big West play at UCSB Campus Pool.
