No. 9 Anteaters Host No. 10 Hartwick in Season Opener

NO. 9 ANTEATERS HOST NO. 10 HARTWICK IN SEASON OPENER: The No. 9 UC Irvine women's water polo team hosts No. 10 Hartwick Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Anteater Aquatics Complex in their season opener. ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The No. 10 Hawks open their season Saturday morning at UCI then travel to Los Angeles to take on No. 2 USC in the afternoon. Hartwick returns five of its top six scorers from 2007, including All-American Kirsten Hudson. UCI RANKED 9TH IN NATION: The Anteaters are ranked 9th in the country in the National Collegiate Water Polo poll. UCI ended 2007 ranked 10th nationally. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 last season which is the highest the Anteaters have been ranked in school history. ANTEATERS IN THE RECORD BOOK: Junior Gianna Rossi is fourth all-time at UCI with 96 goals. Senior Jessica Lewis is sixth with 83 goals. Junior Julia Fancher is tied for seventh all-time with 69 goals. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis is second in `Eater history with 699 saves, 13 behind all-time leader Sun Chamblee.
