No. 11 Anteaters at Stanford, San Jose State

NO. 11 ANTEATERS AT STANFORD, SAN JOSE STATE: The No. 11 UC Irvine women's water polo team (7-7) will head to the Bay Area this weekend to face Stanford and San Jose State in non-conference action. UCI heads to Stanford Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to take on the Cardinal at the Avery Aquatic Center. The team then heads down to San Jose to face the Spartans Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at the Aquatics Center.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Cardinal is 12-1 entering the week after losing to USC in the UC Irvine Invitational championship match. Stanford hosts San Diego State Friday before hosting the ‘Eaters.
The Spartans are 9-8 on the year after finishing 7th at the UCI Invitational. Adriana Vogt leads SJSU with 26 goals on the year. Keeper Meagan Minson has 113 saves on the year.
WEEK IN REVIEW: UCI went 1-3 at the UC Irvine Invitational and finished in 12th place. Junior Caitlin Haskell (Fresno/Buchanan HS), junior Cortney Collyer (Santa Barbara HS) and freshman Kelsey Klatt (Fresno/Sunnyside HS) each had six goals during the tournament to lead the team.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Caitlin Haskell leads UCI with 23 goals on the year. Freshman Jessy Cardey (Riverside/Poly HS) is second with 13 goals. Kat Plummer is third with 11 and senior Erin Kiene is fourth with 10. Lauren Davis has 39 saves to lead the ‘Eaters.
UCI RANKED 11TH IN NATION: The Anteaters are ranked 11th in the country in the National Collegiate Water Polo poll. UCI has been ranked as high as 9th this season. The ‘Eaters ended the 2009 season ranked 9th nationally following their Big West Tournament championship.
ANTEATERS IN THE RECORD BOOK: Kat Plummer is seventh with 111 goals. Caitlin Haskell is 10th with 65 goals. Cortney Collyer is tied for 12th with 61 goals. Senior Erin Kiene (Fresno/Clovis West HS) is tied for 14th with 59 goals. Keeper Lauren Davis is fourth all-time with 155 saves and Morgan Vickers is fifth with 136.
COACH KLATT: Head coach Dan Klatt is in his sixth season leading the ‘Eaters. He was named 2009 Big West Coach of the Year after guiding UCI to the Big West Tournament championship and a Big West regular season tri-championship. He is 90-66 in his first five seasons at the helm.
