NO. 9 ANTEATERS HOST INDIANA: The No. 9 UC Irvine women's water polo team (10-7, 3-4) will host No. 16 Indiana Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The No. 16 Hoosiers are 9-7 overall on the year as they begin a trip to Southern California. Brooke Zimmerman is the leading scorer for Indiana.
WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters went 1-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. The `Eaters beat Arizona State 10-9 in four overtimes, the longest in UCI history. The team lost 6-5 to San Diego State. Junior Sarah Frost (Santa Barbara HS) and sophomore Kat Plummer (Thousand Oaks HS) each had five goals on the week to lead UCI.
UCI RANKED 9TH IN NATION: The Anteaters are ranked 9th in the country in the National Collegiate Water Polo poll. UCI ended 2007 ranked 10th nationally. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 last season which is the highest the Anteaters have been ranked in school history.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Senior Jessica Lewis (Los Alamitos HS) leads the team with 24 goals on the year. Junior Gianna Rossi (Fresno/Central HS) is second with 20 goals on the year. Junior Sarah Frost (Santa Barbara HS) is third with 18 goals this season. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis has 137 saves this season to lead the team.
ANTEATERS IN THE RECORD BOOK: Junior Gianna Rossi is fourth all-time at UCI with 116 goals. Senior Jessica Lewis is fifth with 107 goals. Junior Julia Fancher is seventh all-time with 81 goals. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis holds the UCI all-time record with 836 career saves.
