Play at the Plate Ends 10-9 Win in 11 Innings

Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- A wild game had an even wilder ending as the Anteater defense made the final out at home plate to secure a 10-9 win in the 11th inning Tuesday night to defeat LMU in Page Stadium.
  • With two outs in the 11th, LMU loaded the bases trailing by three as Diego Baqueiro blasted a ball high off LMU's giant left field wall. Two runners came in to score, but Frankie Carney's relay to Woody Hadeen was right on the money to Abraham Garcia-Pacheco at the plate to tag the tying run before it could cross and end the game, 10-9
  • The pesky Lions came back to tie the game on two other occasions
    • UCI led from the jump and held a 4-2 lead in the eighth before LMU scored twice including the tying run on an error with two outs to make it a 4-4 game
    • After three-run top of the 10th for UCI, the Lions again tied things at 7-7, but the 'Eater defense held off a fourth run getting the final two outs with bases loaded including a force play at home by Woody Hadeen for the second out
  • Coming off a late-night, extra-inning win on Sunday, the 'Eaters pieced things together on the mound from 11 different pitchers
    • David Vizcaino's two innings pitched led all 'Eaters.
    • Vizcaino along with Tim Grack and Ryder Brooks each had three of the staff's 15 strikeouts
    • Nick Rincover was effective retiring all five hitters he saw with two strikeouts
    • Michael Pirrello collected his second win of the season pitching the end of the 10th and beginning of the 11th
    • Dante Zamudio made his Division I debut entering with one on and one out in the 11th, and came away with the save along with his first career strikeout
  • Jo Oyama belted a two-run home run the opposite way to start things off in the first and lead, 2-0
    • Anthony Martinez had a three-hit night including the go-ahead two-run double in the 11th
    • Abraham Garcia-Pacheco also had a go-ahead two-run hit in the 10th
    • Caden Kendle returned from injury that made him miss five games to have a three-hit night along with a run and RBI
    • Woody Hadeen reached four times and scored three runs in addition to his run-saving throws on the defensive end
  • The game lasted 4:33, the team's longest since 2022 when the 'Eaters played 14 innings in 4:40
The Anteaters get the win and improve to 19-3. UCI now faces a quick turnaround as it heads to Hawai'i to play a three-game series starting Thursday, March 28
